Yanke Li received his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics (with focus in Investment Science) from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2019 and his Master’s degree in Statistics from ETH Zurich in 2021 respectively. During his studies he focused on the methodological development in statistical modelling and machine learning with real-world applications in areas such as healthcare and finance. In 2019 he completed his Bachelor’s study and was awarded the Outstanding Student Award for his excellent performance in both academic and non-academic activities. For his Master’s thesis he studied the problem of domain adaptation (DA) using causal methods and proposed an novel approach to handle unsupervised DA via reconstructing the observed causal graph.

Yanke joined the SCAI (Spinal Cord Artificial Intelligence) Lab as a PhD student in June 2022. He is working on causal modelling of comorbidities/conditions (e.g. pressure injuries, autonomic dysreflexia) of patients after receiving spinal cord injuries. He has a strong interest in causal representation learning for high-dimensional and multimodal data. His vision is to embed the causal knowledge into a data-driven intelligent system that can enable the timely detection and prevention in an outpatient setting.
